"DragonFly44" A Galaxy Almost Completely Made Up From Dark Matter.

Billions of stars and their planets and even their moons orbit the centre of a galaxy. There are many types of galaxies. There are more galaxies in the entire Universe than there are stars in the Milky Way galaxy. Today we will talk about that seems to be somewhat different from all the galaxies we have discovered so far. The name is Dragon Fly 44 Galaxy which is about 300 million light years away from us. The Scientist has a very strange opinion about this galaxy discovered just a few years ago. Astronomers say the galaxy is made up about 99.99% dark matter.

Dark matter is a very important part of this Universe but scientists have not yet been able to see or detect it. We know about this missing substance because of the effect of its Gravity. Which retain the shape of Galaxy. Due to which the stars do not scatter out of the galaxies. Just like glue. Of course this is a very important part of this universe but its existence and its effect has always been a mystery. Discovered millions of light years away, this Dragon Fly 44 galaxy has far fewer stars than the Milky Way galaxy.

So that’s why Dragon Fly 44 galaxy emits only 1% of the light emitted by the Milky Way galaxy. This makes it almost impossible to see. But in 2015, the International Team of Astronomers discovered the galaxy with the help of The Dragon Fly Telephoto Array. But this galaxy was too dim. That’s why scientists call it the Ultra Diffuse Galaxy. When the scientist studied it in more depth, they found that it contained a very small amount of normal matter, which existed in the form of stars and dust.

This galaxy was discovered by a scientist in a Coma Cluster located in the constellation Coma Berenices. Even though a galaxy has a so few stars, it seems impossible for it to remain as a Galaxy. Especially a galaxy with less than one percent of normal matter. In that case, the stars must come out of the Galaxy, but they remained in place. The gravity of these stars cannot keep them in this galaxy. So there is something invisible that keep them in place. They are just like the stars in the normal galaxy.

In 2016, Astronomers used the Keck telescope to learn more about the galaxy. The WM Keck Observatory is a two telescope observatory located in Hawaii.

In addition, astronomers used the Gemini observatory located in Hawaii and Chile. This observatory also has two telescope observatories called Gemini north and Gemini south. Both of these observatories are one of the largest in the world. Astronomers have used these telescopes to measure the speed and velocity of the stars in this Galaxy.  They did this with the help of DEIMOS meaning deep imaging multi-object spectrograph instrument. They were amazed to see that the stars were moving very fast. There was something that was speeding them all up.

So the scientist attributed this to dark matter. Scientists say that 99.99% of dark matter is a present in this Galaxy. Dark matter always presents everywhere. But the amount of it in the Dragonfly 44 Galaxy is a bit too much. This Galaxy is estimated to contain thousands of times more dark matter than the Milky Way galaxy. Even more Bizarre is the fact that this Galaxy is as much as massive as the Milky Way galaxy. Despite being present so little normal matter.

According to scientists, the mass of this Galaxy is equal to billions of trillions of Suns, or we can say that it is as heavy as the Milky Way galaxy. But where is the rest of the matter in this Galaxy? Dragonfly 44 has not been seen by astronomers for a long time. Even a powerful telescope like Hubble could not capture this Galaxy. A team of astronomers discovered this Galaxy using a special combination of telephoto lenses. This method is used to view a specific intergalactic object.

But finding this Galaxy was not easy.  The Scientist worked day and night to bring this Galaxy to light. The stars in this Galaxy do not have enough gravity to keep themselves in place. Which could prevent them from disintegrating?  So that's why dark matter does this works. The existence of this Galaxy and its dark matter is still a big puzzle.  The reason for this will be known one day or another.
